FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is this?
Resident Evil: Cold Blood is a free total conversion mod using the Source engine. Taking inspiration from the original Resident Evil trilogy as well as the Outbreak series, RE:CB is a cooperative first person shooter that aims to bring back the classic gameplay of the series.
Wasn’t this released already?
Yes, an older version on an older engine! Back in the mid 2000s, we released a very old version of RE:CB for the Half-Life and then Sven-Coop engine. While a lot more rough around the edges and not hugely representative of this version, you may still download the mod and check it out here.
IS THE MOD OUT YET?
Not yet! We’ve been actively working on the Source version for the game since roughly 2021. We’re hoping to get something playable out as soon as possible.
What do i need to play?
When the mod is released, you won’t need to own anything except “Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer”, which can be freely downloaded from Steam. You do not need to pay a penny to play.
May I join the team?
Currently, we are not looking for any additional members. Our team is very small and tight-knit. However, we will definitely be putting out a call publicly for additional staff in the future!
What is the story?
Right now, we’re not revealing a large amount of details on the story. However, keep in mind that we’re focused more on Outbreak style gameplay rather than long-form narrative content. The game is set in Raccoon City during the 1998 September outbreak incident. You will play as all new survivors in all new locations, though some familiar faces and locations will be appearing!
Will you put any paid content in the mod?
No. Everyone gets all the content, equally, and for free!
Which enemies will you be featuring?
As many as we can. Right now we have some really cool assets in the game that we haven’t shown. We’re very much looking forward to revealing more in the future!
WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE THAT? YOU SHOULD IMPROVE XYZ!
Right now we’re currently concerned with getting our gameplay up and running and building up our library of assets - As a total conversion, we don’t rely on any of the pre-existing content that comes with the Source engine for props, textures, sounds or the like. As you can imagine, that puts a bit of a strain on our small team. But don’t worry, polish will eventually come! Right now we have over 1200 3d models and about 3000 level textures. The gameplay itself consists of a fair amount of complexity, as we’re building a huge range of new features not seen in Half-Life 2.
Why not use half life 2 content?
Half-Life 2 content is perfectly fine to use if you are creating a mod. However, as a team we enjoy the challenge of building up as much as we can from scratch and therefore do not wish to use it ourselves. The rest of the content is either commissioned or purchased from asset stores and ported.
